New Customers + Ryobi DI = Big Profits

Last summer Mike Creason's service bureau business had slowed to the point where something had to be done. He decided to investigate digital printing, and Marc Spinola recommend-ed and demonstrated the merits of the Ryobi 3404 DI.

His reasons for acquiring the 3404 DI were because of local service. Marc didn't just sell me a press, Creason said. "They came with it, did the installation and taught us how to make it turn a profit for us. It's been a tremendously successful relationship. I really feel they've gone the extra mile."

4C Imaging has gone from being a high end service bureau to becoming a direct-to-press printer for other printers as well as doing point-of-purchase signage for a large retail grocery chain. They recently added a digital duplicator to imprint prices and special sales offers on the labels and full color signs manufactured on the Ryobi 3404 DI.

The Ryobi 3404 DI is a compact offset press, logically conceived for direct imaging technology. By trying to use constructive measures to keeping construction costs as low as possible, Ryobi produced a cost-effective waterless offset press. The high degree of automation means that job changes are fully automatic and there is never a need for more than one operator.

Because there are only two plate cylinders, only two Presstek ProFire imaging units are required. The imaging width is just 12" because the Ryobi 3404 prints in portrait format. The ProFire units contain six laser modules, each with four individual laser beams.

During imaging, the plate cylinders rotate at 18,000 revolutions per hour (300 rpm). At 1,270 dpi, imaging takes just two minutes and 20 seconds.

PearlDry plates use waterless off-set inks. You can use any of the usual air-stable printing inks. Special inks, like metallics or fluorescents, can be substituted for the normal process inks.

The ink train consists of 15 ink rollers, including four form rollers, which ensures an even ink application, while still providing quick reaction times.

The growth of the business is attributed to the DI and Creason adds,"As for the future, there's one thing I am certain of - Spinola will be there.

As the authorized Ryobi dealer for the area, Graphco has the infrastructure, know-how and tech-service support to back up the investment in DI Æ technology. Not only can Graphco supply the necessary prepress elements, such as color proofing systems and workflow implementation, but also remote services through your internet connection. You have the need and Graphco has the capability to fill that need. As 4-C Imaging Inc. has found, the Ryobi DI has certainly lived up to its promise.
