Curry Printing Curries Favor With Customers by adding Ryobi 3404DI
There is no greater satisfaction than delivering a finished product that helps clients reach their goals and objectives." This is the mantra at Curry Printing (www.curryprinting.com), a commercial and digital printer founded in 1981.
The Buying Decision
As part of their growth process, Tom Gardner, one of three brothers who founded the company, indicates the company was investigating both conventional offset and DI. An important factor as they considered a move to a larger-format five-color press was the need to upgrade their platemaking capabilities to support that type of press. A closer look at DI revealed that it was a more cost effective option, both from the perspective of platemaking capabilities - with the DIs on-press imaging - as well as overall shop productivity.
Curry ultimately decided to acquire a Ryobi 3404DI, installing the press in June of 2002. Gardner says, "The 3404DI immediately made us more productive. We can produce work much faster than before. Our employees, particularly our sales people, are more confident since the DI is more reliable and can turn work faster. I would say they are definitely more aggressive in pursuing four-color work, and I attribute that to the great job the 3404DI is doing for us."
Exceptional Quality and Productivity
Curry has also been able to deliver exceptional quality with the new DI press. The on-press imaging of plates delivers perfect registration automatically, generating sellable sheets rapidly and with much less waste than was possible with the two-color presses. Another benefit Curry quickly discovered was the faster drying time with Ryobi's waterless inks, allowing jobs to be backed up right away and finished sooner.
In fact, Curry routinely produces nine print jobs per day on the 3404DI, compared to the two to three they could produce on a two-color press in the past -a clear testament to the exceptional productivity of the system.
The Customer Perspective
Curry is producing a wide range of applications on the 3404DI, including four-color sell sheets and brochures for manufacturers, as well as brochures and other materials for educational and non-profit organizations. Gardner indicates Curry even uses the 3404DI for two-color work because it is so much faster than a conventional press.
While the 3404DI has certainly enabled the acquisition of new customers, Gardner indicates that the company's primary focus at this time is acquiring new work from its existing customer base - work it was unable to perform prior to the addition of the new press. Gardner believes that the new-found enthusiasm of the sales force for the capabilities of the 3404DI has been well-received by customers, and the volume of work from the existing base is ratcheting up nicely.
As the authorized Ryobi dealer for the area, Graphco has the infrastructure, know-how and tech-service support to back up the investment in DI Æ technology. Not only can Graphco supply the necessary prepress elements, such as color proofing systems and workflow implementation, but also remote services through your internet connection. You have the need and Graphco has the capability to fill that need. As Curry Printing has found, the Ryobi DI has certainly lived up to its promise.
