Morgan Press
For Morgan Press, It's DI x 2 and Counting
While the purchase of a DI press is a major step for-ward for printers who make that choice, Morgan Press has stopped twice as far and doesn't plan on ever looking back. "Eventually, our entire shop will be DI," says the company's President, Gary Morgan.
With a Heidelberg Quickmaster DI, installed in 1999, and a recently installed Ryobi 3404DI, Morgan Press is committed to the advantages of an all digital workflow and DI printer.
Several years ago, after examining conventional four-color presses, Gary Morgan, President of Morgan Press, chose the QMDI both because of its digital imaging features and waterless printing.
The all-digital workflow and automation of the QMDI significantly increased Morgan Press' productivity, and enabled the commercial printer to take on a far greater volume of four-color printing, increasing the amount of process printing they produced from ten percent to sixty per-cent of their business in the first two years of DI ownership. Now, with the second DI press operating, Morgan is reporting that seventy percent of their orders are for four-color printing.
"Everyday life is a color world," observes Morgan. "The world moved from monochrome TV to color TV, monochrome monitors to color monitors, and two-color printing to four-color printing." Morgan Press' color capability has generated new work and new customers with little additional sales effort. "Customers are quick to realize that they can print in process color for only a little more than two-color."
Their success with the QMDI, and the reliability and quality of its Presstek DI imaging components, led Morgan to purchase a second DI press, the Ryobi 3404DI.
With a number of DI advancements made since Morgan Press purchased their first DI press, their new Ryobi 3404DI has more than doubled their press capacity. They're even printing multiple Pantone colors using their DI presses, to effectively compete with conventional multi-color presses for a wide range of jobs.
"We're extremely happy with our DI choices," Morgan says. "We use the new Ryobi system with ProFire imaging for jobs with very intricate design elements, such as large solids, designs with potential for ghosting, and pastel tints of color."
The two DI presses set the company apart from its competitors. DI presses have had such a positive effect on the printer's productivity and profitability, Morgan is reluctant to discuss particulars. "I don't want the competition to know what a good thing I've got."
As the authorized Ryobi dealer for the area, Graphco has the infrastructure, know-how and tech-service support to back up the investment in DI Æ technology. Not only can Graphco supply the necessary prepress elements, such as color proofing systems and workflow implementation, but also remote services through your internet connection. You have the need and Graphco has the capability to fill that need. As Morgan Press has found, the Ryobi DI has certainly lived up to its promise.
